Ray was born in Malaysia and moved to the U.S. in 2003. He played soccer at Clarksville High School. He has a bachelor’s in management from Austin Peay State University and master’s in marketing from Colorado Tech University.

Ray and his wife Cara Gomes are best-selling authors of The Mindset Principle: How I changed my thinking to overcome my depression and save my life. In this book, Ray shares his journey from being homeless to overcoming depression and attempted suicide.

At 19, he was injured in a car accident and could not walk properly for 6 months. Without medical insurance, he had to teach himself how to walk again. Not giving up for 12 years, Ray played for Naples United in the NSL league in Summer 2022. Ray now plays for Swamp Dragons in the adult over 30 league for Gulf Coast Soccer League in Naples, FL.

His mission is to give opportunities for future athletes to learn skills that can improve their career and lifestyles both on and off the field.

Growing up in Brazil, I fell in love with the sport at a very young age.

I am an enthusiastic and dedicated player who is passionate about playing with my teammates and consistently working towards improvement.

I love the competitive aspect of the game as well as being part of the team. Soccer drives me to better myself physically and mentally, so I find it deeply rewarding.

I currently work closely with Coach Phenix providing team operations support including player administration, player onboarding, logistics, scheduling, and team communications.

My purpose with Naples Captains is to support Coach Phenix in establishing a club that promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, self-confidence,  professionalism, and fun for the players and their families through the game of soccer.

When you want to be the best, learn from the best. Cara is a master at applying systems to optimize organizations. She enjoys taking new systems and techniques from different industries and bringing fresh perspective to the organization she is assisting. 

 I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, where my love for soccer began at a young age. I honed my skills and passion for the sport playing as a starting Center back/Defensive Midfielder for Club Atlético River Plate in Miami, a semi-professional team that served as a pathway for players to join the prestigious River Plate professional soccer team in Argentina.

My coaching journey started at the middle school level, where I led my team to second place finishes in two out of the three years I coached. This early success sparked a newfound passion for coaching and player development.

In addition to my coaching experience, I am a certified Personal Trainer and the founder of multiple fitness communities in South Florida, including Ave Bootcamp in Ave María, FL. This background in fitness and wellness allows me to bring a holistic approach to coaching, focusing on both physical and mental strength.

Currently, I serve as the head coach for Elizabeth Seton Catholic School and as an Assistant Coach for St. John Neumann High School. In these roles, I have the opportunity to mentor and empower young players, helping them develop their skills and love for the game.

I am dedicated to creating a positive and supportive environment for players to grow and succeed, while instilling a love for the beautiful game of soccer. I am excited to continue my coaching journey and help players reach their full potential on and off the field.
